Cabinet Care Guide

Your cabinets are more than just a piece of furniture, they require maintenance to protect them from damage and ensure their durability. Here’s a few things we suggest you do to take care of your cabinets:


General Maintenance

  • Cabinets around sinks, ovens, and dishwashers require extra attention because of their proximity to water, heat, and steam. Make sure to keep them dry and free of food and oil splatters.

  • If you have a self-cleaning oven, remove cabinet doors and drawers closest to it before using the self-cleaning feature to minimize the risk of damage.

  • Make sure your home environment is temperature and humidity regulated. The temperature inside your home should be within a range of 60º-80º Fahrenheit. In addition to this, kitchens and bathrooms should be well-ventilated to exhaust excess heat, humidity and contaminants.

Cleaning Tips

  1. Wipe spills and splatters promptly with a clean, soft cloth dampened with warm water. If you need to remove oil or tougher spills, add a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid.

  2. After that, immediately dry using a second clean, soft cloth.

  3. If your cabinets have a pattern or graining, be sure to wipe with the grain direction.


Things to Avoid

  • Avoid placing damp cloths or dishtowels over cabinet surfaces.

  • Avoid harsh cleaners with bleach, ammonia, citrus products, mineral oil, harsh detergents, strong soaps, and abrasive cleansers.

  • Avoid waxes and polishes. These will cause build-up.

  • Avoid using sponges or dishcloths that may contain remnants of food, oil or other cleaning solutions.

  • Be cautious of objects hitting the cabinet fronts that may cause chips and scratches to cabinet surfaces.

Extra Tips:

  • Don't spray glass cleaners directly to the surface of the cabinet as overspray and drips can damage cabinet finishes.

  • For your chopping block, use food-grade mineral or vegetable oil to reseal occasionally. It may be necessary to refinish the block after a few years. Sand off the finish and reseal using a mineral or vegetable oil.

  • To clean your breadboard use a clean, soft cloth dampened with warm water and a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid. Do not soak the breadboard in water or wash it in the dishwasher.


Cabinets may get chipped or scratched during installation or from common items like cutlery, jewelry or fingernails. Additionally, adjustments to cabinet hardware may be necessary from normal use.
