There are many things to consider when renovating your home space, so let’s discuss the most important ones that you should keep in mind to help you make informed decisions that will contribute to the overall success of your renovation project.
1. Your Budget
The first important consideration you should have is an established budget. When you decide what you’re going to renew, like your floors, paint, cabinets, tile, light fixtures, etc. then you can find out a rough estimate for each item and define the scope of your remodel.
A budget will also help you decide if you can hire a contractor, a designer or take care of some of these tasks yourself.
2. Workflow in the Space
Your space workflow is an important consideration, as it defines the function and aesthetics. Understand how much traffic each room gets to decide what needs you should meet with the design and what other factors you should consider like selecting materials that will last longer.
For example, if it’s a mudroom you might want to think about heavy duty floors, and laminate cabinets.

3. Storage Needs
How much storage space do you need? A thorough assessment of your storage needs will help you determine the best ways to remodel your space to accommodate your current and future storage needs.
4. Lighting
It is always important to take note of the lighting situation in your space. It helps you decide many other things when renovating your space like paint colors or wood tones of your furniture. If you have a space that’s small and not well lit, you might want to consider painting the walls a lighter color or select a light wood for your cabinets to create a perception of more space.

5. Timeline
How long do you have to complete your project? This factor will determine the cost of the remodel as well as product availability. You might have more time to wait on your bathroom tile that needs a special request and custom cabinets that are made to order. Or you’re in a time crunch so you’ll get whatever tile is available at the closest store and cabinets that are in stock and can be delivered faster.
We know, when it comes to remodels it can be overwhelming and seem like there’s too many things to think about and decide. Hopefully with these tips, you can come up with a list of needs and wants for your space and that’ll make your renovation process easier to deal with.
